ECE Department head

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona is looking for qualified candidates who bring the experience, leadership skills, and vision necessary to lead a department of high excellence. We seek candidates with a deep commitment to academic distinction who will enhance the department's ability to recruit and retain high-quality faculty and students while facilitating large, innovative, multidisciplinary projects.

The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. We have 34 full time faculty and 20 administrative and technical staff personnel. Areas of research emphasis include biomedical engineering, sensor design and signal processing, communications, computer networking and architecture, high-performance computing, design and control of autonomous vehicles, terahertz devices and systems, metamaterials, antennas, optics and optical communications and software engineering and information systems. The department receives strong support from industrial and government partnerships with current research awards of $10M annually and participation in several NSF- and industry-supported research centers.

The department is ranked in the top 30 public institutions in the US. Since 2000, 14 new faculty members have been recruited, five of whom have received NSF CAREER awards. We have just celebrated our 100th year with a series of successful outreach and fundraising events.
